Augustin-Bon-Joseph Robespierre

Arms of Augustin-Bon-Joseph Robespierre (1763-1794)

The youngest brother of Maximilien Robespierre, Augustin was born in Arras on January 21, 1763.

Also trained as a lawyer, he was totally devoted to his elder brother during the French Revolution, who had absolute confidence in him.

Delegated to the Army of Italy, he witnessed the recapture of Toulon from the English. He then became friends with Napoleon Bonaparte. On December 22, 1793, he signed the decree appointing him general.

Returning to Paris, he shared his brother's fate on July 27, 1794 (Thermidor 9), and was guillotined the following day on the Place de la Révolution [now Place de la Concorde].
